The Localism Act, which received Royal Assent on November 15 2011, introduced new rights and powers to allow local communities to shape new development by coming together to prepare neighbourhood plans, legally known as Neighbourhood Development Plans.

This 20 page Government guide to the planning system explains how the system in England works.  It is intended to give an overview only and does not set out planning policy or guidance.

The National Planning Policy Framework

First published in March 2012 and revised in July 2018, the NPPF sets out the Government's planning policies for England and how they are expected to be applied.  Alongside the NPPF the Government has also published helpful planning practice guidance.  The NPPF replaced over 1000 pages of national policy contained in a series of Planning Policy Statements.

Show Us a Waste of Space says CPRE Gloucestershire

A national campaign to identify derelict sites and vacant land in towns and villages that could be suitable for new homes has come to Gloucestershire.

 In November 2013 CPRE Gloucestershire Branch and Natural England ran a day seminar on NCA profiles under the title Using environmental information to help shape policy and projects and to inform decision making.

The most detailed ever satellite maps of England’s light pollution and dark skies, released by the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), have shown that parts of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) are ranked 13th in terms of the darkest skies in England.

Gladman gives up in the Slad Valley

Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) Gloucestershire, which fought a long battle with developer Gladman over its plans to build over 100 houses on Baxter’s Field, Stroud overlooking the renowned Slad Valley, is celebrating after the developer withdrew its challenge to Stroud District Council’s rejection of its development plans.
