This new initiative, launched today at Gloucester Services, has CPRE’s full support and we believe it should make a real difference.
The nation and not least Gloucestershire faces a huge challenge to get the right homes built in the right places, of the right type and in the right number. But it must not be just about the numbers.
There is a big issue over the quality of much new development and creating attractive places and sustainable places where people want to live and can feel part of their new community.
Good green infrastructure ought to be a win win win, by providing:
• better quality environments for people, with generous green space;
• development which maintains and enhances natural features and wildlife; and
• sustainable drainage systems to manage the water environment better and enable natural flood management.
The standards in ‘Building with Nature’ show how this can be achieved.
