Neighbourhood Planning

Tuesday, 09 June 2015 07:57

The Localism Act, which received Royal Assent on November 15 2011, introduced new rights and powers to allow local communities to shape new development by coming together to prepare neighbourhood plans, legally known as Neighbourhood Development Plans.

Neighbourhood plans, once formally approved, form part of the statutory planning system but must be in conformity with the local plan for the area.  There are many approaches to community-led planning, some long established and some new ones such as Neighbourhood Plans introduced through the Localism Act. But what approach is most appropriate in your area and how do you find out more about it? The process is complex, however help is at hand from many different sources.
