CPRE welcomes the Agriculture Bill

On Friday, the last day in January, the UK will be leaving the European Union, and as a consequence will no longer be constrained by the requirements of the Common Agricultural Policy.  CPRE has welcomed the Agriculture Bill which was introduced into parliament on 16th January.

Meat and the Climate Emergency

A documentary programme (Meat: A threat to our planet?) recently broadcast on BBC TV raised the issue of red meat production and its contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions. Concerns have been raised that the programme lacked balance and implied that all meat production was severely damaging and consumption should be drastically cut to address the climate emergency.

CPRE Gloucestershire’s Rural Excellence Awards – now in their twelfth year - recognise developments which are outstanding in their contribution to the environment or the local community, and which are exemplars of good practice.  The 2019 Awards presentations took place today when seven awards were made celebrating some of the very best of the county’s building developments and projects.
Since its awards scheme first began in 2007, CPRE Gloucestershire has celebrated and highlighted 67 innovative projects throughout the county.

New Director Appointed

CPRE Gloucestershire are pleased to announce that they have appointed a new County Director, Louise Williams. Louise has around fifteen years experience of working in the third sector in Gloucestershire and started out working for a young people’s homelessness charity.  From there Louise has worked in various roles from front line service delivery to strategic development and leadership in areas such as drug and alcohol, childhood bereavement, mental health and more recently violence against women and girls.

Landscapes Review Published

The eagerly awaited final report on future directions for England’s National Parks and AONBs was published on 20th September. The report titled Landscapes Review and its proposals are the outcome of an independent review commissioned by the government in May 2018 and led by an expert panel chaired by Julian Glover.

National CPRE made a comprehensive submission to a consultation and CPRE Gloucestershire made a separate submission relating to the future of the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds AONB.
